garden with confidence

this season

Think about your soil. Add a layer of mulch (compost/mushroom compost/manure) to your beds for growing success this year

As the daylight hours get longer, get a good feel of how much light your garden gets. It always helps to plant the right plant in the right place, and understanding your space will help this.

Fill up those bird feeders. When it comes to slug prevention, garden birds are your friends

not to be missed!

Seedlings

Most seedlings are planted out in spring or early summer. Hardy annuals can be planted out straight into the ground, whereas with half hardy annuals you need to wait until any risk of frost has passed.

Shrubs, climbers and perennials

General advice is to plant these in Autumn or Spring because conditions are ideal. You can plant them at any time. Avoid frozen, waterlogged, or extremely dried out soil and your plants will be happy in the ground.

key dahlia times

We specialise and dahlias, and have a huge range. There is a dahlia for every garden whether you garden in pots, or have sprawling beds.

Early Spring

We send out tubers. These need to be potted up in some compost, and kept in a frost free, sheltered spot.

You can skip this step and order pre-potted plants if you are short on time and space

From May

Once all risk of frost has passed and the plants have good growth you can plant them out.

the next few months

April

Plant out hardy annual seedlings and sweet peas

May

Plant out dahlias and half hardy annuals. move tender plants like pelargoniums outside, once last frost has passed

June

Time to start watering, feeding, deadheading and enjoy spending time in your garden.
