“Sarah has always been the person to go to for anything garden in my eyes. She has the best taste and her plants have always been the best quality.”
YOUR GARDEN STORIES WITH
Willow Crossley
HOW DID YOU FIRST MEET SARAH?
We met at an exhibition at the Thyme Hotel. I’d wanted to meet her for so long and was so excited when we finally did; it was like meeting the Queen!
WHAT'S YOUR EARLIEST GARDEN MEMORY?
Begging my parents to stop gardening. We lived in a cottage where they dug and created a garden from scratch, so there was a lot to do! My whole childhood was spent in and around the garden.
DESCRIBE IN THREE WORDS YOUR GARDEN AESTHETIC
Romantic, Wild, and Abundant
WHAT FLOWERS CAN YOU NOT LIVE WITHOUT?
Tulips in spring, roses, corncockle and sweet peas in summer, dahlias and nasturtiums in the autumn.
WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE WAY TO BRING THE OUTDOORS IN?
The house is always filled with some sort of flower – lots of bulbs in the winter, cut flowers in the spring and summer, lots of branches. I have a little cutting garden where I grow things that I want to fill the house with or experiment with for work. It doesn’t feel like home without some sort of plant or flower going on.
WHAT IS ON YOUR GARDEN WISH LIST?
My garden isn’t quite how I’d like it! I compete with a lot of rugby and footballs, goals and cricket nets for starters. Then when I work on jobs, I use lots of plants in the installations – which often I end up with – and they might not necessarily be what I would’ve chosen to have at home but I just can’t throw them away. I’m lacking the cohesion I long for! And then there’s the lack of time. One day, I’ll have the time to make it exactly how I want it!
