Easy to grow

When we arrived at Perch Hill 30 years ago, the first thing we had to do was plant hedges, hedges and more hedges

Many had been taken out in previous decades and the place is perched on the edge of a hill and was very exposed. Using Inspiration from the small fields in the Scillies and Cornwall and what they use to give protection to their winter cut flower crop of scented narcissi, we got planting.

Our UK grown hedging plants are supplied as cell-grown saplings ready for immediate planting into their final positions. Cell-grown plants are known to have high establishment success rates with rapid early growth and are uniform and compact in size for quick and easy planting.

This collection will cover 10m in length based on a planting density of 5 plants per metre. When planting, mix the varieties well and plant in a zig-zag style to encourage a thick and bushy hedge.

This collection contains 5 plants each of:
  • Alder
  • Blackthorn
  • Dog Rose
  • Field Maple
  • Hawthorn
  • Hazel
  • Rowan
  • Gorse (Due to suply issues Sea Buckthorn has been swapped for Gorse)
  • Spindle
  • Wild Privet
  • Planting a hedge offers huge benefits to gardens of all shapes and sizes – Sarah’s top 5 reasons.
  • They look spectacular with varying leaf shapes, flowers, and fruits
  • Great for providing food, shelter, and nesting sites for wildlife
  • An excellent natural shelter from strong winds
  • Brilliant for helping with carbon capture, flood control and soil erosion
  • Cheaper and far more sustainable than erecting a fence
